Malaysian Cooking Class
with Chef Guru
Thursday 23 May at 6.30pm
Learn the secrets of Malaysian cuisine with Chef Guru in this Malaysian Cooking Class. Malaysian food is heavily influenced by Thai, Chinese, Indonesian and Indian cuisine. These influences extend from the use of the wok to the combinations of spices used in many popular dishes. Malay food is generally spicy. Dishes are not always necessarily chilli-hot per se, but there will always, at the least, be a chilli-based sambal on hand. Malaysian cuisine is a blend of traditional Southeast Asian herbs, Indian and Middle Eastern and Chinese spices leaving us with fragrant combinations of coriander and cumin with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, cardamom, star anise, and fenugreek. In this hands on cooking class create Beef curry puffs one of the most popular street food in Malaysia; Nasi Lemak, Nonya Chicken Curry, Rota jal and Assam Laksa a popular noodle dish known worldwide for it’s clear tangy fish broth. Curry pastes and sambals are the foundation of Malaysian cuisines. Everyone will take away pastes to recreate dishes at home.
