Puff Pastry Cheese Twists

approximately 20

Easy

Prep 15 min Cook 20 min

For an easy quick accompaniment to a platter, party or a simple home snack, these Puff Pastry Cheese Twists are as easy as they are delicious. I prefer to use Careme pastry if I am not making my own…why? Because it is the best and above all its almost even better than making it yourself. Lets be honest if you dont have hours to make, turn, fold, roll and rest puff pastry to get those flakey light crisp layers, then store bought will be just fine.

As you will hear me say in many of my recipes, there are like a blank canvas where you can add some of your favourite flavours. I love salty, savoury flavours so the combination of cheeses with garlic, herbs and onion powder make the perfect combination. You can store these in an airtight container for at least 3 weeks although I will bet that they dont last that long.

Puff pastry Cheese twists

Ingredients

  • 375g packet Carême Classic Butter Puff Pastry or similar, defrosted
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 egg whisked

Recipe Steps

Preheat the oven to 200c Fan Forced

    1. Combine the cheeses with the spices and set aside. Whisk the egg and lay the pastry horizontally in front of you and cut the puff pastry in half horizontally. Then cut the pastry vertically into 2 cm thick pieces. Brush each of the pieces with the egg wash and top liberally with the cheese and spice mix.  Line a tray with baking paper, as you lift a pastry strip to lay on the tray, twist the pastry as you go.
    2. Bake the pastry puffs for 20 – 30 minutes depending on your oven, until the twists are golden brown and flakey.
    3. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before storing in an airtight container or jar.
